VFXShow 283: The Fall Guy

In this episode, the guys discuss The Fall Guy, it’s effects and whether or not its commercial success should be the bell-weather for the entire cinema industry.

The Fall Guy was directed by David Leitch and written by Drew Pearce. It is loosely based on the 1980s TV series by the same name. The plot follows a stuntman (Ryan Gosling) working on his ex-girlfriend’s (Emily Blunt) directorial debut action film, only to find himself involved in a conspiracy surrounding the film’s lead actor (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). The cast also features Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, and Winston Duke.The Fall Guy premiered at SXSW on March 12, 2024, and was released on May 3.  As the guys discuss it also set a Guinness World Record for the most cannon rolls performed in a car.

The Production VFX Supervisor was Matt Sloan. The VFX were primairly handled by Framestore, Cinesite,  Rising Sun Pictures and Crafty Apes. Here is a breakdown reel from Cinesite
